How to DIY Your Child’s Delicious and Gorgeous Birthday Cake

Store bought results made easy and made with much Love ❤️

When it comes to my child’s birthday party cake, I tend to feel two things – the mom in me wants to give my baby a cake that will wow her and make her feel the most special on her special day. However, the Asian in me wants to make sure I stick to some sort of budget and that the cake doesn’t end up costing more than necessary. So what’s a Modern Asian Mom to do? We get crafty and whip up our own beautiful, custom, delicious cake without breaking the bank, of course.

I’m not much of a baker, but I do enjoy following recipes and the idea of decorating is fun. I love the idea of making my child’s birthday cake on my own because I have full control over what the end result will look like and there’s something about being able to boast that I baked a cake for my baby’s special day that makes me feel really proud. It also really doesn’t have to be that difficult. You can choose a basic vanilla or chocolate cake recipe and make the cake really special through decorating and purchasing some themed cake toppers. You can choose a more interesting cake recipe (crepe cake? mousse cake? red velvet? blue velvet? the possibilities are endless!) and add some pizzazz with decorations and cake toppers. For those who don’t even want to or have time to pick a recipe, there are also some companies that sell cake baking kits that include all the ingredients for the cake, plus some simple decorations.

We know that cakes are one of the main events your baby enjoys in his or her celebration, so here are our best tools and recommendations for baking your child’s next favorite birthday memory.
